Absence of elevated serum tryptase in rocuronium-induced anaphylaxis during discectomy under general anesthesia: A case report
نویسنده
چکیده
A 43-year-old female patient, who had previously undergone surgery under general anesthesia without any problems, was scheduled for discectomy. Propofol and rocuronium were injected sequentially to induce general anesthesia. Twenty minutes after the rocuronium injection, severe hypotension, tachycardia and bronchospasm developed, and delayed skin rashes appeared. The operation was cancelled. No postoperative complications were evident, and the patient was discharged from the hospital. Serum tryptase value at the time of anaphylaxis was within normal ranges. But skin prick test and intradermal test was found to anaphylaxis caused by rocuronium after six weeks.

Suspected Anaphylactic Shock Associated with Rocuronium in an Infant: A Case Report
We report a case of severe anaphylactic shock in a 5-month-old infant who was scheduled to undergo an external inguinal hernia repair under general anesthesia. Rocuronium used for anesthesia induction was the most likely cause of anaphylaxis. High levels of serum tryptase and histamine detected in the blood sample collected during the anaphylactic reaction confirmed the diagnosis of anaphylacti...
متن کاملEffect of general anesthesia and orthopedic surgery on serum tryptase.
BACKGROUND Mast cell tryptase is used clinically in the evaluation of anaphylaxis during anesthesia, because symptoms and signs of anaphylaxis are often masked by the effect of anesthesia. No larger studies have examined whether surgery and anesthesia affect serum tryptase. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of anesthesia and surgery on serum tryptase in the absence of anaphyla...
متن کاملRocuronium bromide induced anaphylaxis in a child -A case report-
Anaphylaxis or anaphylactoid reaction in pediatric patient during anesthesia is rare. We report a rocuronium induced anaphylactic reaction in a 33-month-old female. The patient was scheduled to undergo escharectomy due to injuries suffered from a major burn. Shortly after administration of rocuronium, the patient developed severe hypotension, tachycardia, and hypoxia. A similar reaction occurre...
متن کاملAnaphylaxis during anesthesia in Norway: a 6-year single-center follow-up study.
BACKGROUND Several studies have recognized neuromuscular blocking agents as the most common cause of anaphylaxis during general anesthesia, but the reported frequencies vary considerably between countries. In Norway, the issue has raised special concern because of reports from the Norwegian Medicines Agency that suggest a high prevalence. This article presents the results from a standardized al...
متن کاملPerioperative allergic reactions: experience in a Flemish referral centre.
BACKGROUND The incidence of perioperative anaphylactic reactions is overall estimated to be 1 per 10,000-20,000 anaesthetic procedures. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients referred to a University Allergy Centre in Belgium with the suspicion of an allergic reaction during or shortly after general anaesthesia. OBJECTIVES Our aim was to assess the causes of perioperative allergic ...
